NTP exists solely as an "intellectual property" company, i.e., it doesn't make anything or contribute to society in any kind of meaningful way. It exists solely to strongarm technology companies into paying obscene amounts of money to NTP's owners for licensing things that are common-sense and should be public-domain ideas. This just goes to further the notion that lawyers create their own business and reinforces my example from an earlier post about how greed in America is out of control.
